travel diary of Cairns part 3
I woke up at 6 on April 8th, too
I went to
Kuranda by
Skyrail on that day!
Actuarlly I wanted to go there by
Kuranda Scenic Railway but it hasn't been working because of typhoon in February.
I chose it reluctantly
First I went to
Caravonica Station from my hotel by bus
But the bus didn't come there again!
I went back to my hotel, and when I was about to ask the clerk about it she told me that "The bus to Caravonica? We've heard from them, and it'll soon come here!".
If I miss the Skyrail I can't go to Kuranda, so I felt easy
The bus came to my hotel about at 7:50, and I went to Caravonica Station.
There was only me in that bus and I talked with driver all along.
We talked about Japan and Kuranda, and he's acted as the host family for Japanese students, so we talked about it, too.
I bought Skyrail tickets at Caravonica Station, and got guidebooks.
Of course I got both of English one and Japanese one
The Skyrail is a gondola which was completed in 1995.
All towers were lifted into place by helicopter to avoid disturbance of the tropical rain forest!
It's a 6 passenger gondola, and I took it with a Japanese couple to
Red Peak Station.
They love traveling, and then they were traveling all over Australia
The wife had been an English teacher in high school.
Unfortunately it began to rain but they told me about many countries which they've been to!
To tell the truth, I don't like the Skyrail[:
You know, I can do bungee-jumping, but I'm afraid of it
But thanks to them I could forget fear!
Red Peak Stationat 545 meters is the highest point on the Skyrail.
There was a boardwalk in the tropical rein forest, and although it's only 175 meters I spent long time to watch it
The tropical rain forest in rain was so good
Next I went to
Barron Falls Station!
I took it with an American couple.
We took pictures each other, watched scenery with reading a guidebook, and we felt comfortable.
The fear has left me completely
There was also a boardwalk at Barron Falls Station, and we could look at Barron River, Gorge and Falls!
I met a Japanese couple again there, and we enjoyed the tropical rain forest with reading a guidebook!
And then I went to Kuranda Station!
I took it with them again.
They had a plan to go down the river, so we left there.
Now they're in Tasmania!
In Kuranda I went to
Heritage Market first
There were many Aussie traditional souvenirs!
And next I went to
Koala Garden which is in Heritage Market!
There were of course some koalas, and wallabies, wombats and crocodiles, too
Especially we could feed wallabies freely, and when I walked they came to me!
They were very cute
I spent time with Italian woman, and I could take a picture that wallaby are jumping at her
Oh, I took some pictures with koala
Although that koala is 6 month old baby, his nails were sharp, and he was powerful!
He was so cute, and when I pretended to kiss him the clerk stopped me
Of course I just pretended to kiss!
The clerk laughed at me!
Wombats were sleeping and never moved
My boyfriend loves wombats and he asked me some photos of it, but they turned their back to us, and we could take a picture which we can't conclude it's a wombat..
Crocodiles also never moved.
But we could look at them at close range and had a good time!
And next I went to
Butterfly Sanctuary
Actually I hate insects and I can touch only ants and mosquitos, but I wanted to see Ulysses at close range by all means, so I went there!
Yeah, there were a lot of vivid colored butterflies, and they were really beautiful
I spent time with a British family, and we felt happy with only seeing them
They had a 5 years old boy, and he jumped to touch them and he was so cute
He'll enter a school which he can also study Japanese from next year, and I asked him that "Can you speak Japanese?", so he answered "KONNICHIWA. GENKI DESUKA?"
It was difficult to take picture of Ulysses.
BUT
One of Ulysses perched on my shoe
I could take a picture of it although it was not clear
I took a picture of specimen, too!
After that I had a lunch
I ate breaky wrap and hot latte at
cafe kuranda.
It was really delicious
If you have a chance to go to Kuranda, you should eat it!
And next I went to
RainForeStation by bus.
When I was waiting for the bus I met a Chinese family again whom I took a cruise together at Lake Barrine
I asked them that "Do you remember me?", so 2 children answered that "KONNICHIWA." in Japanese!
I told them that "You can take a picture with koala!", so they answered that "ARIGATO!" with laughing, and I was happy
The main in RainForeStation was
Wildlife Park and
Army Ducks.
And I also experienced Aboriginal performances.
I spent time with a Kiwi couple there.
I couldn't understand the word "
didgeridoo" on the guidebook, and I asked a guide it, so Kiwi husband who was standing next to me taught me it, and we became friends
Ah, by the way didgeridoo is an Aboriginal traditional instrument
In Wildlife Park I enjoyed with animals again!
I love animals, so I can enjoy it every time
There was a very big crocodile, and this time it was moving, and I was excited!
I wanted to take a picture of it, so I shouted "Open your mouth!", so everybody laughed at me
Kangaroos, koalas and big lizards were also moving, and I was really excited
But only wombat never moved
A Kiwi couple also love wombat and they also tried to take pictures of it, but we could take pictures of only their backs.
・・・Kiwi loves wombats
Army Ducks is amphibious, and we made a tour of tropical rain forest
I took an English guide one, so sometimes I couldn't understand words, but I could get full explanations with taking notes on my guidebook I got
We met another Army Ducks at the pond on the our way, and it was a Japanese guide one and there were only Japanese, of course.
Mike; our guide said to me that "Say something in Japanese!", so I shouted "KONNICHIWA〜!", so they answered "KONNICHIWA〜!", so some foreigners on my Army Ducks also shouted "KONNICHIWA〜!", and it was interesting
Kiwi wife shouted "WATASHI WA New Zealand JIN DESU〜!"
And next we experienced Aboriginal traditional instrument; didgeridoo!
I could make a sound but I was surprised at their lung capacity
Although my lung capacity is 4000cc, I was very tired
But it was enjoyable!
And I went back to Caravonica Station again.
I took it with a Kiwi couple.
It was shaked because of heavy rain, and sometimes stopped, and when I said "KOWAIYO〜!" in Japanese they copied me and said "KOWAIYO〜!" with laughing
And they asked to me about religion because of Easter.
Kiwi wife asked to me that "What's your religion, alexis?", and I answered that "Almost all Japanese doesn't belong to religion.", and she asked "Not Buddhism?", I answered "We usually don't value it."
She asked to me "Why?" but I couldn't answer about it exactly, and I've answered "Because I'm a Japanese, maybe."
I don't know why.
But when I said to them that "We Japanese usually enjoy Xmas! It's convenience, right?", they laughed.
You know, religion is really sensitive, so I worried about that if they got hurt feelings by me what should I do, but they laughed and I relaxed.
It's cross-cultural communication・・, right?
While I was waiting for the bus to Cairns at Caravonica Station, I could talk with a lot of foreigners!
Especially I made friends with Chinese sisters, and I talked about many things with them and a Kiwi couple.
The younger sister also could speak English fluently, but the elder sister could speak only Chinese, so we taught English, Chinese and Japanese each other.
I taught them that a Japanese word "GENKI" is really useful, and many foreigners in Japan also use it, for example "I'm GENKI.", so they started to talk to some people around there "GENKI?", and they said that "No, he didn't answere, he is not Japanese." and made a joke!
People whom they talked to were blonde, and they weren't obviously Japanese, but it was really funny!
I thought that Japanese are shy and I also thought that I'm lucky that I can speak English, although my English is still poor
In the bus we continued talking and laughing!
Chinese sisters and a Kiwi couple were staying the hotel opposite by chance, and the next day they went to Atherton Tableland together I recommended them
I had to leave them at the bus because I had to go back to Japan next day, but we exchanged our e-mail addresses, and a Kiwi couple will come to Japan next year, so we'll meet again in Japan!
I also decided that I wanna try more higher bungee-jumping in New Zealand, so we'll be able to meet again in New Zealand, too!
In Cairns I went to shopping for souvenirs
To tell the truth, April 7th was my dad's birthday, but I was in Cairns, so I bought his birthday present.
Well, Cairns is not a place for shopping, and I thought after I go back to Japan I go shopping with him, but I found a watch which I liked and maybe he also likes, so I got it
He likes to take a cruise and sometimes goes to sea, so I want him to wear it there.
And, a cute CELINE wallet has caught me who have lost interest in long wallets, and I've gotten it
And I had a dinner
I ate Inbox Big Beef Burger and macchiato at
inboxc@fe
But the menu said that "It's huge", so I ordered smaller one and fewer potatoes.
But I couldn't eat it・・.
They had a live show, and I had a comfortabke and calm time
And then I took a walk in the city with eating blueberry flo of
New Zaeland Natural Ice Cream
It was the last night for me in Cairns, so I enjoyed it until the time of the last bus
And I went back to my hotel from DFS by the last bus
The driver remembered me and asked me that "Where will you go tomorrow?".
I answered that "I'm going back to Japan tomorrow.", so he asked to me that "But you'll come back here next year, right?", so I answered that "Sure!", and when I got off the bus I said to him that "See you next year!"
Yes, I had a really enjoyable time

Cheer me on!
